Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

I’m starting with the one in the mirror.
I’m asking her to change her ways.
I’m starting with the one in the mirror.
If you wanna make the world a better place
take a look at yourself and then make a change.

These lyrics, which are modified from the Michael Jackson song titled, “Man in the Mirror,” have been playing in my mind, lately, along with the news of the escalating violence and humanitarian and political crisis in Syria. How can I change my ways to support the people and land of Syria? I can expand my awareness. I can send light and love. I can pass along tools that strengthen hope. This blog post offers a meditation designed to support Syria and promote peace.

Wednesday, I met with my dream group and we talked about the situation in Syria. It weighs heavily on each of our hearts. Thursday, I received an email from the Global Coherence Initiative with a suggested meditation to care for Syria. (I love synchronicity!) I offer the meditation to you. But first, here is some background information on the Global Coherence Initiative (GCI). The CGI website states that GCI is a science-based, co-creative project to unite people in heart-focused care and intention, to facilitate the shift in global consciousness from instability and discord to balance, cooperation and enduring peace. This project has been launched by the Institute of HeartMath, a leader in researching emotional physiology, heart-brain interactions and the physiology of optimal health and performance. The Global Coherence Initiative is designed to help individuals and groups work together, to increase the impact of their efforts to create positive global change. If you want to know more, their website is http://www.glcoherence.org/about-us/about.html. Here are the steps of their project called “Special Care Focus: Syria.”
1. Create a heart-field environment around the leaders and decision-makers for choosing the best outcome for all concerned.
2. Then radiate love and compassion to all who lost their lives and those who are suffering mentally, emotionally and physically, at this time.
3. Then radiate love to people suffering from acts of hatred, prejudice and separation.
4. Close by radiating compassion to yourself and to all who are following the news while dealing with the challenges of their own discomforts regarding this situation. Let your heart’s prayer be for the highest, least suffering outcome for all.

GCI reminds us that it is wise to monitor our mental and emotional balance in our reactions to the news and outcomes. Absorption is seductive and can have negative effects on our health and well-being and our ability to generate effective care.

If this process calls to you, I invite you to add your intention to that of others from around the globe to support the people of Syria and the leaders who are deciding a course of action in response to current circumstances. In any event, “If you wanna make the world a better place take a look at yourself and then make a change.” Or as Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

What changes do you want to see? Let me know. I’m interested in hearing your dreams and your experiences.
